Amidst My Ashes

AMIDST MY ASHES

In memory of Cynthia M. Rhodes

Small boats circle

in recognition of the water’s

infinite wisdom.

Ripples on the surface

wash away the pain.

(I have suffered so long, so long.)

At peace now,

one with the water,

my soul lives in its depths.

(You do not understand.

Love does not end suffering.)

My heart and my spirit are cleansed.

My energy unites with the water,

the origin of all life, and my soul is

imbued with the hope of an end

to these mortal bonds.

Remember me now,

in my choice

with each small wave

that touches your shoreline.

Your comfort and love renewed

with each tide,

my pain subsides and

drifts away with the current.

I am free!

And the dolphins

swimming past

pause in recognition

of my release.
